Education Reform at the Bush Institute

The Bush Institute's Education Reform initiatives are built on the principle that every child can learn. This effort works to increase student achievement through accountability, school leadership, and middle school transformation.

Advancing Accountability advocates for strong accountability systems that promote student learning. Every state has an accountability program and the Bush Institute evaluates their effectiveness, suggests needed reforms, and places a special focus on states that seek to avoid federal achivement requirements.

Strong principals are an integral part of the education workforce and are uniquely positioned to improve schools. The Alliance to Reform Education Leadership is building a network of principal training programs and highlighting policies that allow principals to become effective leaders.

Many students who drop out of high school do so because they failed to gain the skills they needed in middle school. Middle School Matters focuses on improving middle school instruction so students will be able to stay in school and earn a high school diploma.
